The word mosque comes from the Arabic word "masjid" which means place of prostration. Mosques are places of prayer for Muslims but they can also serve other functions. Thus, mosques can also be places of training, charity, university, school for children, etc. The first mosque in the world is the Kaaba in Mecca also called "al-Masjid al-haram". It is around the Kaaba that Muslims make seven rounds during the hajj or umra pilgrimage. Muslims all over the world face the Kaaba to perform the daily prayers of the believer (the qibla). Find many posters in our Mosque Posters category representing photographs of the Kaaba and other holy places of Islam.
